B.S. in Graphic Information Technology
The B.S. in Graphic Information Technology (GIT) degree stresses the application of theories, concepts, and principles found in the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences to the field of graphic information. You will study materials and production processes, industrial management and human relations, marketing, communications, electronics, and graphics. Graduates are ready to assume leadership in positions requiring knowledge in the creation, distribution, and storage of graphic information.
All GIT students take a 27-hour core of graphic information courses. Additionally, the GIT curriculum provides flexibility for students to select from areas of specialization:
- Web: A 12-hour block of specialization courses creates a mini curriculum in the design, implementation, and analysis of Web-delivered graphical information. Topics include Web programming, graphics, site design, client-server considerations, e-commerce, and Web publications.
- Multimedia: A 12-hour block of specialization courses creates a mini curriculum in multimedia. Topics include interactivity, animation (both two- and three-dimensional), multimedia authoring, and digital photography.
- Print: A 12-hour block of specialization courses creates a mini curriculum in electronic print. Topics include electronic layout and design, graphic arts technologies, offset and gravure printing technologies, and commercial photography.
*Students can also focus on more than one specialization in web, print, and multimedia.
All degree programs make extensive use of the Graphic Information Solutions facility where modern design practices and digital work flow combine with different print and reproduction processes to afford students a contextual learning environment. Students in GIT may further enrich their educational experience in the Student Web Development Enterprise, the GIT Commercial Photography Studio, or the X-Rite Color Metrology Laboratory.
