ASU - South Mountain Community College Partnership
ASU's Polytechnic campus and South Mountain Community College have partnered to offer a four-year BAS degree in Operations Management with a focus in Telecommunications Technology.
The Telecommunications Technology program at South Mountain Community College is the only program of its kind in Arizona. There are great career opportunities in this dynamic, fast-growing, high-tech field. Telecommunications Technology provides voice, video and data communication services. The program is designed for entry-level students and to upgrade the skills of people already working in telecom. Students can receive the education and skills required to work as a telecom professional.
Program courses include: wireless communications, fiber optics, telephone, convergence (VoIP), cable TV, computer networking, copper-based cabling, basic electronics and more. Modern telecommunications labs are used for many classes to provide students with hands-on experience. Students also have the option to take industry recognized certifications in fiber optics, convergence and computer networking.
After completion of the AAS degree in Telecom Technology from SMCC, students can transfer 60 semester hours to ASU and complete the BAS degree in Operations Management. Students will be required to take approximately 60 semester hours (20 courses) of upper-division courses from ASU to earn the degree. The Operations Management degree provides students with the education to become telecom managers (commonly referred to as IT managers) for any business organization or as managers for telecom industry companies.
